Our top six Genie tips to help you enjoy your special occasions
There are all sorts of things to look forward to in the next few weeks and months, from Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day to the half-term and Easter school holidays; perhaps even some skiing or a winter sunshine break as well.
There might be a special family event like a wedding on the horizon – did you know that the most popular date for a wedding this year (according to the wedding website ‘Hitched’) will be 20 June? That’s really not so far away. And, of course, who knows what could happen on 29 February?
Whatever occasions you’re looking forward to, our Genies would like to help make sure you can relax and enjoy every moment. Here are our top six Genie tips to help you to de-stress and enjoy yourself.
Recognise the signs
For small business owners stress-factors can include everything from finding new customers and managing your current customers to negotiating extra finance and keeping your employees happy.
The important thing is not to keep your stress in the magic lamp – sometimes you just have to let things out.
There could be a few things that regularly cause you stress. There might be a weekly meeting, something that needs to be done at the end of every day, or bills you have to pay at the end of every month.
When you have worked out what causes your stress, you will be better prepared to tackle it. The next important step is to find ways to de-stress yourself.
Take control of your time
Part of your dream when you started your business might have been getting away from the 9-to-5 treadmill, only to find that you’re now on a 5-to-9 treadmill instead.
Try to remember that you are your own manager and you need to look after your welfare. If parts or your daily schedule lead to stress, why not change them?
If you know that you are most productive in the morning, at lunchtime or from 3 to 5pm, block that time out in your diary for the things that need your closest attention.
Make time for yourself
Choose activities outside of work that clear your mind and help you to relax. Make sure they are priorities in your daily or weekly schedule.
Whether it’s time with the family at the weekend, 30 minutes of magical meditation every day, or some levitation on a Friday afternoon, take them as seriously as an important client meeting.
The power of ‘No’
Every small business owner is tempted to say ‘yes’ to almost everything. It’s hard to turn down opportunities. You might feel as though you are helping your business grow, but you could be running out of time to do other important things.
If you do too much, you can become overwhelmed and your health and your business could suffer.
By saying ‘no’ more often, you’ll have more time and energy to do the important things.
Of course, you can’t say ‘no’ to everything, but you can learn to let other people take some of the strain. It might be hard to let go of the magic wand, but every business owner has to take this step at some point, so why delay?
When you started your business, you probably did everything yourself so you could keep all your processes in your head. However, you’ll quickly discover that other people will need to understand your processes to help keep things running smoothly.
Writing down your processes helps to reduce your stress levels because you won’t have to remember everything anymore.
Even better, once you start to sort out what you do and how you do it, you will probably discover that there are better and simpler ways to do things.
Now it’s time to enjoy…
… your time off, making the most of those special occasions.
With less stress at work you can really enjoy the other things you do.
They can practically perform miracles with your processes to give you extra time.
You can even magically be at work and not at work at the same time; with the Genie call handling service, your clients will never know that you’re making the most of some ‘me’ time or ‘family’ time.

Thank You, The Office Genie!
"The last call of the day was taken by The Office Genie. It was a prospect that I had spoken to in September last year and following a quick call back they became a £6,000 job for April. I would have either missed that call or had it on divert to my mobile in the car, which is never the best impression. Thank you The Office Genie."
