Worries for small business owners - are you ready for anything?
Small business owners have got a lot to think about and, while we all like to plan for a rainy day, it’s not always easy.
Here are just some of the things that the UK’s small business owners worry about, according to research.
Brexit - Almost one in five (39%) small business owners say that leaving the EU will take the shine out of their business, although the same number think they won’t be affected. About one in ten think their business will have an extra glow. Which are you?
Many businesses with a lot of employees from other European countries are worried that they might take flight or decide not to come to the UK. Does this sound like you?
Technology - New technology can turn a sow’s ear into a silk purse, so it’s not surprising that it’s on a lot of people’s minds. While many people know what they need, they are concerned they don’t have time to properly research the market and carefully plan their investment. Is finding the time to choose the right new inventions to transform the future of your business causing you heartache?
Finances – You want all your business treasure to be in the right place. It’s much easier now for small business to obtain finance and to change providers, but you still need time to check the market to find out what’s best for your business. Is this on your ‘to do’ list, but you haven’t had time to find the right ingredients?
Online – When messages from another realm fail to arrive, it can be a big problem, so internet access is another important issue. While almost eight out of ten people say they are satisfied, research shows that businesses have an average of two major connection losses a year that stop them working or accessing vital services. For businesses with less than ten employees the time taken to restore the service was 12 hours. Have you had a similar experience? Did you have a spell in place to help you to the other side?
Transport - Commuters whose trek to work takes less than 30 minutes can conjure up an extra seven days of productive time each year, compared with those who journey for more than an hour. More importantly, traffic jams and train cancellations are terrible time thieves. If your business relies on being able to get out and about, how do you manage when the gremlins arrive?
Recruitment - Keeping valued members of staff is another common issue for small businesses. Sadly, your towering Titans sometimes decide to move on, despite your best efforts to keep them enthralled. When that happens, recruitment can be time-consuming. You don’t want to choose the wrong replacement, so you need to give it your full attention. While you do that, how do you cope with a gap in your business?

They field my calls as if located in my office!
I am happy to recommend The Office Genie to any small business that does not have full time telephone coverage in their offices.
I find it very useful as I am often out of the office and they field the telephone calls in a professional manner always answering the phone as if they were located in my office.
The text messaging service for missed calls is very useful as I am able to contact people when I am on the move and do not have a great pile of calls to make when I get back to the office.
